Hyderabad to Bapatla Beaches
The Suryalanka, Vodarevu and Ramapuram beaches are among the closest real sea coasts to Hyderabad — about 300 km down NH65 or NH16. This guide covers the route, trains, stays, and a workable two-day plan.
Three ways to travel
Pick by budget and time — every option lands you in Bapatla, the gateway town 9 km from Suryalanka.
By car — the classic weekend drive
About 300–315 km and 6.5–7 hours. Take NH65 towards Vijayawada and turn off towards the coast, or follow NH16 via Guntur and Chilakaluripet to Bapatla. The final 9 km from Bapatla town to Suryalanka Beach is a straight coastal road. Roads are in good shape; start by 5–6 AM to arrive by lunch.
By train — fastest public option
Bapatla railway station sits on the Vijayawada–Chennai coastal line, and Hyderabad to Bapatla takes roughly 6 hours by express train. From the station, autos and taxis cover the 9 km to Suryalanka. Book tickets in advance for weekend travel.
By bus — cheapest option
APSRTC and Telangana RTC run services towards Vijayawada and Guntur; from either city, connecting buses reach Bapatla. Total time is around 8–9 hours with the connection. Night buses can work well for a weekend trip.
A realistic weekend itinerary
Two days and one night covers all three beaches plus a temple stop without rushing.
Start late evening by train or overnight bus so you wake up on the coast. Alternatively drive overnight and arrive for sunrise.
Morning at Suryalanka Beach — sunrise, swim, beach walk. Check into a beach resort or Bapatla hotel. Evening golden-hour photography, seafood dinner at a beach shack.
Drive 15 km south to Vodarevu for the morning fish market and boat rides, then on to peaceful Ramapuram. Stop at Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple in Bapatla town on the way back, and drive or rail home by night.
Where to stay
Beach resorts and homestays line the Suryalanka beach road for the full seaside experience, while Bapatla town (~9 km inland) has budget and mid-range hotels near the railway station and bus stand. For weekends between October and March, reserve at least a week ahead. See stays and other businesses on the marketplace.
Trip tips
- 1Book weekend stays at Suryalanka resorts in advance — rooms fill up fast October–March.
- 2Carry cash; many beach shacks, autos, and small shops don't accept cards or UPI.
- 3Fill up fuel in Bapatla or Guntur — petrol pumps thin out on the coastal stretch.
- 4Check sea conditions before swimming; the coast is rough during monsoon (July–September).
- 5Best time overall: October to March. December–January is the coolest window.
